Job Summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Education, the SEA Accountant will be responsible for the overall management of School budgets, accounts payable, accounts receivables and payroll pursuant to the practices, policies and procedures adopted by the Stoney Education Authority (SEA) and Stoney Tribal Administration (STA).


  • Monthly monitoring of all aspects of the budgets for all SEA programs
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Supervise purchasing, accounts payable, and payroll department to include monitoring workflow.
  • Develops and implements short and long-term financial plans for the SEA
  • Provide supervision and direction to subordinate responsible staff.
  • Coordinates with the STA Accountant in the preparation, administration and control of the Budget
  • Assist biddings of major service contracts of the school and capital projects.
  • Analyze financial transactions for variances, exceptions and consistency with association policies.
  • Establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
  • Research Preparation and submission of fundraising Proposals.
  • Oversee petty Cash Account for all of SEA.
  • Analysis for AANDC to improve Funding to the SEA
  • Oversee Nakoda Bus Lines in along with Bus Coordinator and Superintendent
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed by Superintendent


  • Post Secondary diploma and/or degree in accounting
  • Accounting designation required
  • At least 2-3-year experience working for a First Nation preferred
  • Experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting
  • Experience in preparing business plans considered an asset
  • Ability to facilitate and maintain a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Excellent judgement, diplomacy, inter-personal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work with integrity and confidentiality
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Knowledge of Xyntax Accounting System considered an asset


  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • A clear Criminal Record Check
