JOB SUMMARY:

The Career Counsellor for Eden Valley Career and Employment Centre reports directly to the Labour Market Manager and is responsible for working with individuals seeking employment services, career development, skill enhancement and training opportunities. This position assists with filling out program forms, provides job search and coaching services, and develops, organizes and facilitates training courses. The goal of the position is to assist individuals to develop their skills, start their career or further their education to succeed in their choice of work. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with submitting applications for funding for a skill enhancement to the funder for the following:
    • Certificate programs (One year or less)
    • Self-Employment
    • Targeted Wage Subsidy
    • Occupational Skills Training: Industry Recognized (Safety training, Apprenticeships, Class 1 Driver Training)
    • Project Based Training
  • Manage Client’s file: maintaining accurate records and reports regarding the client’s histories and progress, services provided, and other required information.
  • Accurately input into spreadsheets statistical information into monthly stat sheets.
  • Provide regular progress reports for approved clients.
  • Ensures to complete assessments and service needs determination under the provincial agreement with proper hard copies of files and maintains database entry.
  • Maintains the excel spreadsheets for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
  • Assists clients with Complete skills assessments and evaluations with clients to determine the interests, aptitudes, and abilities of clients.
  • Assists clients with resume and cover letter development, and how to apply for jobs
  • Provide motivation and guidance to clients during the sometimes-difficult process of finding employment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current job searching methods.
  • Developing and creating workshops on job readiness and pertinent employment skills such as but not limited to resume writing, job searching, interview preparation, career planning, personal development, and self-esteem.
  • Stay up to date on changes in trends for resume writing and job searching.
  • Complete Action Plans with clients
  • Manage Action Plans by reviewing and adjusting as necessary, identifying barriers, providing ongoing support to clients for gaining and maintaining employment
  • Refer clients to the appropriate service providers for additional aid when necessary
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor

Education, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma an asset
  • Post-secondary education in related field; or working towards designation in Career Development
  • Work experience in the field of career development (or relevant field) will be considered in lieu of post-secondary education.
  • Understanding and knowledge of employment issues, trades and apprenticeship, education and training, career decision-making, and its relation to the labour market.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), various databases, search engines and outlook/email.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to set goals
  • Ability to work as a team member as well as independently
  • Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge of Eden Valley and Bearspaw First Nation is an asset.
  • Ability to speak Stoney is an asset.

Wage:

Up to $25.00 per hour based on experience
