Bearspaw First Nation is an independent signatory of Treaty 7 and is one of the three Stoney Nakoda First Nations who signed Treaty in 1877.
To address a history of discriminatory practices as it relates to First Nations children, Canada is providing funding to establish a range of prevention programs and services intended to ensure that Indigenous children do not come to attention of child and family services. Bearspaw First Nation is establishing a prevention program to provide a range of supports to build strong and resilient families.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Community Food Services Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all elements of food security programming for the Bearspaw First Nation Prevention Programs. This position will plan and lead both community kitchen programs and community meals for the Eden Valley and Mînî Thnî communities. They will oversee all cooking activities, manage all inventory, and ensure the safety of everyone working or volunteering in the kitchen.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Planning: Prepare a weekly and/or monthly schedule of meals for all community programming.
- Budgeting: Ensure adherence to a monthly budget ensuring that the program remains within funder guidelines.
- Resource Management: Oversee the distribution of food resources.
- Community Outreach: Build and maintain relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders to support program initiatives and resource acquisition.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with other prevention programs to ensure a comprehensive and wholistic range of supports and services for children, youth, and families.
- Compliance: Ensure all programs comply with relevant regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Safety: Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment including monitoring equipment to ensure they are working correctly and for needed repairs.
- Training: providing food safety training and nutritional information to families and other staff.
- Supervision: Provide supervision and leadership for other staff and families who are participating in activities in the kitchen.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain complete and accurate records of all interactions with families and participate in compiling necessary reports as required.

Education, Skills & Qualifications:
- Post secondary training in the culinary arts is preferred.
- Must have or be able to obtain the AHS Food Safety Certification.
- Experience working in a food services role would be beneficial, preferably in a First Nations setting.
- Understanding of the Bearspaw First Nation culture, traditions, and history is helpful.
- Proficiency in data management and reporting.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and program management software.
- Ability to develop creative and cost-effective menu plans.
- Ability to prepare a wide range of meals and teach others how to prepare those meals.
- Willingness to collaborate with community members to develop culturally appropriate meals.
- Ability to lead a group of community members to prepare meals to take home, using a community kitchen model.
Employment Conditions & Hours:
- Full-Time with evening and weekend work required to meet the needs of families.
- Clear criminal record check along with a vulnerable sector and a child intervention check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and clear driver’s abstract
