Job Summary:

Working in collaboration with the SHS Social Worker(s), the MHN works primarily in the community promoting culturally safe, competent and client-centered care.  The MHN will provide intensive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of client care and services within the mental health and wellness program. 


  • Collaborating in the development of personalised client goals and related care plans;
  • Overseeing client’s medication self-management and metabolic screenings
  • Providing home visits and family support, as required;
  • Providing supportive counseling and life-skills development
  • Supporting clients with medication education and administration.
  • Liaising regularly with other care teams to evaluate client progress and care goals.
  • Carrying out referrals and/or consultations
  • Supporting child and adolescent SW and psychiatry clients, as requested;
  • Facilitating group programs as required, including education sessions for the community.
  • Providing professional guidance to other health professionals as requested;
  • Carrying out other associated duties as may be required.



  • Strong initiative and leadership abilities; able to prioritize demands and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of mental illness, mental health nursing theory and community mental health resources
  • Understanding of trauma informed practices and experience working with Indigenous peoples.
  • Familiarity with suicide risk assessment and safety planning
  • A proven ability to work well with individuals from varying backgrounds;
  • Experience with or interest in working in community settings;
  • Computer skills relevant to the position;



  • Registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) and/or College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • A graduate in good standing of a recognized university Registered Nursing degree program;
  • Current Basic Life Support Provider Certification (BLS – Provider);
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Community Treatment Order legislation



  • Class 5 Alberta Drivers License (or higher depending on vehicle type)
  • Clean Driving Record
  • A clear Criminal Record Check
