Bearspaw First Nation is an independent signatory of Treaty 7 and is one of the three Stoney Nakoda First Nations who signed Treaty in 1877.

To address a history of discriminatory practices as it relates to First Nations children, Canada is providing funding to establish a range of prevention programs and services intended to ensure that Indigenous children do not come to attention of child and family services. Bearspaw First Nation is establishing a prevention program to provide a range of supports to build strong and resilient families.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Program Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of all prevention programs offered within the community. They will provide day to day oversight of all programs to ensure that they are staffed and have the supplies they need to offer supports and services to families.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Program Coordination: Oversee the daily operations of prevention programs, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with families in the community as well as with community partners to further the goal of offering a wide range of meaningful activities.
  • Planning: In collaboration with program staff and the program manager, work to develop programs that meet the needs of the families, children, and youth in each respective community.
  • Family Support: Ensure that families are receiving the supports they need.
  • Supervision: Provide day to day leadership to the community-based team. This includes providing regular supervision for staff, performance feedback as needed and managing performance issues when necessary, with the support of the program manager.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other prevention programs to ensure a comprehensive and wholistic range of supports and services for children, youth, and families.
  • Budget Management: Working with the program manager will monitor all program budgets to ensure that resources are used effectively with no overspending.
  • Compliance: Ensure all programs comply with relevant regulations, policies, and best practices. This will include ensuring all programs comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain complete and accurate records of all interactions with families and participate in compiling necessary reports as required.

Education, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Diploma in the following fields is helpful, Human Services, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. Equivalencies such as work experience and life experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with families would be beneficial, preferably in a First Nations setting.
  • Strong understanding of Bearspaw First Nation culture, traditions, and history.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Experience in data management and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop creative and effective solutions to client issues.
  • Ability to apply trauma-sensitive principles in all interactions.
  • Ability to provide immediate support and solutions during crisis situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding.

Employment Conditions & Hours:

  • Full-time with evening and weekend work required to meet the needs of families
  • Clear criminal record check along with a vulnerable sector and a child intervention check.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and clear driver’s abstract.
