JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Daycare Manager, the Child Care Worker will plan and implement a developmentally appropriate childcare program, offering a nurturing environment for the care of children encouraging their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. This position will require knowledge of the Early Learning Framework (FLIGHT) and will work in close cooperation with the Daycare Manager, support staff and other Child Care Workers.
The Early Childhood Worker/Educator enhances the development of children in the Early Learning & Head Start programs by providing developmentally appropriate and interest-based programming in a safe and secure environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Welcome children to the Daycare in a warm, caring and genuine manner.
- Supervising the Early Learning children.
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well- being of children.
- Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or next steps with the family and other staff. Implement individual program plans as guided by the Manager.
- Carrying out developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for the children, which may include indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, individual and group activities.
- Utilizing guiding techniques which include modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.
- Attending to the children’s physical needs which may include toileting, eating, sleeping, wiping noses, and other basic needs.
- Maintain a clean and organized space.
- Attending to children’s psychological and emotional needs which may include cuddling, rocking, holding infants and children.
- Providing a caring, nurturing environment.
- Observe children and prepare reports/ documentation daily for the family, guardians and supervisor.
- All other duties assigned by the Daycare Manager
Education, Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma (or ongoing upgrading)
- Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate Level 1 or 2 (or willing to engage in training while on the job)
- Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous learning.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certification
- Ability to playfully engage young children in learning through play
- A love for young children and a passion for helping build a bright future for them
- Ability to use technology to communicate with management and parents
- Good verbal and written skills
- Can work alongside others and support others in a team setting
- Goal orientated with little need of direct supervision
