The Stoney Nakoda Adult Treatment Centre is seeking compassionate, grounded, and recovery-focused individuals to join our team as On-Call Addictions Recovery Support Workers. This casual, on-call role is ideal for individuals with lived experience, cultural understanding, and a strong desire to support others on their healing paths while working flexible hours based on operational needs.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Peer Support Workers of the Stoney-Nakoda Adult Wellness Center (SN-AWC) have gone through a process of recovery and have obtained peer support-related training to assist clients with substance use challenges to identify and achieve life goals as part of their own recovery. As part of the AWC Team, Peer Support Workers use strengths-based and recovery-oriented approaches with individuals and/or groups to help combat stigma, promote self-determination, and instill hope.

This on-call position provides coverage as required, including evenings, weekends, overnights, and relief shifts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide information, as well as emotional and compassionate support for AWC clients and their families;
  • Help clients build resilience and develop self-care / wellness plans as they work towards recovery goals;
  • Encourage and support client participation in all aspects of the AWC program activities;
  • Assisting in planning, and implementation of AWC services that promote recovery and wellbeing;
  • Providing crisis support, as needed, and generally ensuring the safety and security of all clients;
  • Doing spot checks on the clients regularly;
  • Accompanying clients on outings;
  • Maintaining confidential client files and documenting all services;
  • Acting as a resource for any local agencies/ programs requiring Peer Support expertise;
  • Performing administrative and clerical functions related to his/her roles
  • Carrying out other associated duties as may be required

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Credentialed by, or eligible to be credentialed by, a recognized Peer Support credentialing organization;
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification;
  • Training on suicide awareness and suicide intervention, an asset;
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a substance use peer support role or similar context;
  • A good knowledge of current Peer Support and recovery practices;
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with concurrent mental health disorders, an asset;
  • Demonstrated self-awareness;
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the recovery and change process
  • Understands the impact of trauma and the ability to provide trauma-informed care;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of cultural diversity issues, benefits, and strategies to enhance relations;

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Clear Criminal record check and vulnerable sector
  • Class 5 Advanced Drivers License and Clean Driving Record
