Job Summary:

The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and Policy places a great emphasis on assessment of children and families in determining the safety of the child, the need for intervention and the type of intervention required building on the strengths of the family.  The model of practice is based on the philosophy that children, youth and families should have input into the decisions that affect their lives.  Assessment, engagement and collaboration are cornerstones of the Model.

As an Assessor you will utilize your strong knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act, to complete assessments and make recommendations to ensure the safety and protection of children and families.

You will be required to be part of an on call after hour’s rotation and may be required to work evenings and weekends.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing strong interviewing skills, you will collect information in order to determine the nature and the degree of risk to a child
  • Complete multi-level assessments, including initial and extended detailed child and family assessments
  • Continual consultation with the Supervisor

  • Family Law Act
  • Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act
  • Freedom of Information and Privacy Act
  • Family Supports for Children with Disabilities Act
  • Drug Endangered Children Act
  • Protection Against Family Violence Act
  • Protection of Children Abusing Drugs Act
  • Youth Criminal Justice Act
  • Criminal Code
  • Mental Health Act
  • School Act
  • Indian Act
  • Charter of Rights and Freedom
  • Dependent Adult Act
  • Alberta Health Act
  • Court attendance and preparation of legal documentation
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Education, Skills & Qualifications:

  • The strongest applicants will have a MSW or a BSW with some related experience.
  • a related university degree or diploma plus several year of related experience working with families and children will be considered
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Microsoft Word and Basic Computer skills
  • Knowledge of the Stoney-Nakoda Culture and traditions; Ability to speak Stoney considered a strong asset
