Eagle’s Nest Stoney Family Shelter (Eagle’s Nest) is an organization with a mission to provide immediate response to victims of family violence in the form of safe shelter, food, clothing, childcare and individual and group counselling. Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Eagle’s Nest, the primary role of the Custodian is to ensure the overall cleanliness of the shelter. The Custodian is responsible for the daily cleaning, monthly and yearly schedule of cleaning the facility.
Working hours may vary. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cleans all areas of Eagle’s Nest Shelter
- Abides by proper sanitation and health standards
- Creates and maintains a cleaning schedule for the shelter, daily, monthly and yearly items
- Cleans, sanitizes and restocks bathrooms’ daily
- Empties garbage containers on a daily basis
- Cleans bedrooms, offices, common areas
- Vacuums, sweeps and mops floors
- Maintains clean furniture
- Cleans vehicles, vacuum inside, and washes outsides
- Cleans and sanitizes play room including toys
- Cleans windows, heating vents, behind appliances
- Ensures all areas of Eagle’s Nest is clear of debris
- Takes initiative when something additional needs cleaning
- Shovels walkway in the winter and ensures walkway if free of ice
- Mows lawn in the summer, and light gardening
- Washes and folds laundry, bedding, and other items
- Move equipment and supplies
- Ensure that cleaning supplies are locked safely away from children and clients
- Ensures janitorial supplies are stocked
- Organizes and orders janitorial supplies in compliance with budgetary guidelines
- Participates in supervision, annual performance reviews and organizational planning
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director
Education, Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Custodian an asset
- Ability to read safety instructions on labels
- Knowledge of hazards and safety rules
- Knowledge of the methods used in cleaning buildings
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently
- Honest, reliable, and punctual
- Sensitive to the needs of women and children in crisis
- WHIMIS training an asset
- First Aid / CPR certificate an asset
- Must be able to abide by SNN Staff Regulations, Eagle’s Nest Policy and Procedures, and a strict Confidentiality agreement
- Must have reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Must be chemical and substance free
- Vulnerable Sector Check and Child and Family Intervention Record check are conditions of employment
