JOB SUMMARY

The position reports to the Supervisor/Manager of the Early Intervention and Prevention Program and forms part of SNCFS EI& P team. The intent of services will focus on Early Intervention/Prevention to reduce and/or prevent the need for child protection mandated services.

The Family Support Worker will assist individuals and families in their healing journeys by providing the required assistance, supports and educational information to influence change and re-establish self-identity by promoting healthy behaviors and lifestyle.

DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver educational workshops or one on one services designed to nurture the parent and provide alternative, appropriate, effective skills, and knowledge for parenting and family relationships.
  • Provide mediation services or deliver the opportunity for clientele to participate in traditional talking/healing circles that are designed to help parent/care givers who are experiencing unresolved issues.
  • Provide educational sessions or one on one in areas surrounding life skills
  • Identify and address important social issues pertaining to the Stoney Nation communities and deliver educational workshops and preventative awareness
  • Assist in the facilitation of E I& P traditional/cultural programming and/or community gatherings.
  • Provide support to clientele by attending traditional ceremonies when required.
  • Work collaboratively with the CFS team
  • Collaborate effectively with other community agencies or service providers
  • Prepare and complete monthly service delivery calendars identifying anticipated home intervention schedules, workshop schedules to the supervisor of the EI/P program
  • Any and all other duties assigned by Supervisor

EDUCATION, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor or Diploma of Social Services, Child and Youth Worker Diploma and/or any other related Diploma or Certificate deemed appropriate for this specific job will be considered.
  • Experience in front-line service or program delivery provided to First Nation Child and Family and/or Social Services will be considered.
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills; fluency in Stoney language an asset
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply a wide range of social work practices/principles and First Nation based methods
  • You will also demonstrate anti-oppressive practice in your work and have full knowledge and can demonstrate harm reduction models into practice (Signs of Safety).
  • You are required to have an active understanding of colonialism, intergenerational trauma, the 60’s Scoop, the residential school system and its ongoing traumatic effect on Indigenous communities
