Job Status 3-Year Term
Job Schedule Generally, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate community availability.

The Indigenous Cancer Screening Nurse (RN) supports Indigenous clients and families by promoting cancer prevention, education, and screening services. Working within a culturally safe and trauma-informed framework, the Nurse helps improve access to breast, cervical, colorectal, and lung cancer screening while providing advocacy, care coordination, and health navigation support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide cancer screening education, support, and navigation services.
  • Coordinate appointments, follow-up care, and access to healthcare and community resources.
  • Conduct health assessments, screenings, and medication reviews.
  • Support health promotion, chronic disease management, and patient education.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, community partners, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers.
  • Participate in outreach initiatives, reporting, quality improvement activities, and occasional travel to Indigenous communities.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience, preferably in primary care, public health, or community health.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Knowledge of cancer screening programs, Indigenous health, cultural safety, and health equity principles.
  • Valid CPR certification, Class 5 Driver’s Licence, reliable vehicle, and satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
