DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the safety of women and children who are residing in the shelter
- Performs house security checks throughout the night
- Performs lockdown procedures in the shelter, perimeter check, alarm set, etc.
- Responds to callers phoning on the 24/7 crisis line
- Provide information to callers about necessary resources, other crisis lines, and alternative housing options as necessary
- Develops safety plans with callers when needed
- Is aware of and carries out emergency procedures such as calls to Security, EMS, RCMP, and evacuation as needed
- Documents all incidents that are outside of normal operations
- Ensures clients have the necessary medical treatment necessary
- Maintains and documents secure storage and handling of prescribed and non-prescribed medications are stored in a locked cabinet
- Carries out debriefs with colleagues at shift changes
- Ensures the confidentiality of all activities and clients within the shelter is respected and upheld
- Is aware of policies, procedures, mandates, mission, and philosophy and how they should be implemented and adhered to
- Participates in staff meetings and training as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Manager and Executive Director
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required
- Calm, professional, and effective in crisis situations
- Empathetic, non-judgmental, and able to maintain clear boundaries
- Sensitivity to the needs of women and children in crisis
- Knowledge of Stoney family culture and values is an asset
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team
- Available to work overnight shifts
- Chemical- and substance-free
- Committed to confidentiality and compliance with STA Staff Regulations and Eagle’s Nest policies
- Self-aware, positive, and open to ongoing professional development
TRAINING (PROVIDED IF NOT CERTIFIED)
- First Aid / CPR
- ASIST Suicide Intervention
- Mental Health First Aid
- De-escalation of Violence
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Must have a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract
- Criminal Record check and Intervention Record check are conditions of employment
