SUMMARY:
The Registered Psychiatric Nurse will work closely with all departments within the health team and agencies both on and off the nation. We strive to take a collaborative approach to ensure the best holistic care for clients in community. The nurse will case manage clients, co-create evidence-based protocols, administer prescribed treatment/medications, and report/refer on prominent deviations in patient’s symptomology.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Daily reporting and monthly program and client updates to Program Lead/Health Manager.
- Complete patients’ health history and mental status assessments
- Evaluate and assess client-related physical health problems, issues, and questions
- Implement strategies to promote optimal mental health, physical health, and overall well-being
- Administer and assess effects of medications
- Respond to observed behavioral changes
- Educate a variety of audiences on a range of mental health and addiction topics
- Case Manage client intake and discharge based on status.
- Collaborate on psychiatric intervention plans.
- Refer and recommend adjustments to health team on psychotropic and similar medications.
- Monitor adherence to non-medical treatment regimens.
- Removing potentially harmful and triggering environmental features.
- Restraining, consoling, and sometimes medicating highly unsettled patients
- Recording and documenting patients’ health journey. Reporting on notable alterations.
- Conducting targeted psychoeducation, particularly with families.
- Supporting families and staff with trauma related situations.
- Referrals and appointment management set up both on and off reserve.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team to support client’s and other agencies to needs.
- Participate as a member of the Stoney Trail Wellness team in various activities
- Comply with all relevant STA policies, procedures and regulations
- Act as an Ambassador for Client and family-centered care and client autonomy
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA)
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP)
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant addiction and mental health experience, preferably in a community setting.
- Critical thinking skills, working knowledge on the management of concurrent disorders and medical co-morbidities, and the principles of chronic disease management and recovery are required.
- Advanced knowledge and skill in the areas of evidenced-based assessment and treatment of mental illness and addiction is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and seek consultation when necessary.
- Ability to ambulate, climb stairs, and move quickly without limitations in a variety of environments.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Clear Criminal record check and vulnerable sector
- Active Nursing License and Insurance
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a vehicle in good working order for work related travel.
- Position – FTE 1.0 (1 year term contract)
- Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm with OT as needed
Minimum Salary: $39.21
Maximum Salary: $51.46
Monthly Travel Allowance Based on Address.
